1922 M.I.E.E., M. Inst.Met., F.R.S.A., Elec. and Mech. Engr.; Chief District Representative for Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Ltd., Manchester; b. 1870; s. of George Dowers Mercer. Ed. Gorrig School, Kingstown, Ireland. Training: Royal College of Sc. for Ireland, and served apprenticeship with Fletcher, Son and Fearnall, Union Dry Docks, London; 8 years with British Insulated Wire Co. (now Brit. Ins. and Helsby Cables, Ltd.), as Supt. in charge of Cable and Overhead Electric Tramway Contracts; 15 years with British Westinghouse Co. (now Met. Vickers Elec. Co.); District Manager of Birmingham, and later of Cardiff district offices; 2 years at M. of M., London, as Director of Electric Furnaces. Various papers before Technical Socs. Club: Engrs.
