Reading-Halls Station Bridge (USA)

Reading-Halls Station Bridge is a historic Howe pony truss road bridge located at Muncy Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. It was built in c.1846 by the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. Span approximately 70 feet (21 m). It is the oldest bridge of its type still in operation in Pennsylvania. Probably designed by Richard B. Osborne.[1]

X-braced iron girders. Each top and bottom chord is assembled from four rectangular section wrought iron bars. Ornanmental iron castings are used for the diagonal members (single members in tension, pairs in compression). Vertical wrought iron tension rods are fitted at each point where the diagonal members meet the chords.
