RENNIE DEAN received his technical education at Keighley Technical Schools and served his apprenticeship with the Post Office Engineering Department from 1911 to 1914. He continued his training for another five years with Messrs. Vickers, Ltd., Barrow-in-Furness, where he was employed as a fitter.

After a brief period with the British Thomson-Houston Company, Ltd., of Rugby, as erection engineer, he was made resident contracting engineer to Messrs. Siemens and Company, Woolwich, and for two years was engaged on the erection of a new station for the electricity department of Leicester Corporation. An appointment as distribution engineer to the borough of Kettering followed in 1924, which appointment he held until 1930, when he went to Coventry as deputy city electrical engineer and manager. During his tenure of this post Mr. Dean superintended the construction of large primary transformer stations and extensions to generating stations.

In 1939 he became general manager and chief engineer for the Borough of Luton Electricity Undertaking and was holding this position at the time of his death, which occurred on 15th March 1943, in his forty-ninth year. Mr. Dean was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1935, and was transferred to Membership in 1939. He was also a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
