1885 Died. 'The death is announced of Alderman Richard Wellington Hodgson, Gateshead, who died yesterday at Harrogate. The deceased gentleman had been in indifferent health for some months past. On Saturday he left home tor Harrogate, hoping for benefit but became rapidly worse. Mr. Hodgson, for a period of half a century, served the town. He was born at Heworth in 1812, as the son of the Rev John Hodgson, M.A., who was at that time vicar of the parish. The Rev gentleman's name is well established as the writer of a history of Northumberland, and as a poet, Naturalist, geologist, and experimental philosopher.'[1]
