Born the son of John Clough

1851 Living at Grove House, Keighley: John Clough (age 42 born Kildwick, Yorks), Worsted Spinner employing 57 boys, 51 girls, 193 women and 186 men. With his wife Nancy, five daughters and three sons including Robert Clough (age 19 born Bingley), Clerk to manufacturer.[1]

1911 Died. 'One Keighley’s best known townsmen died, yesterday, in the person of Mr. Robert Clough, Beech Cliff, Keighley. Until twenty years ago Mr. Clough was associated with the firm of Robert Clough, manufacturers, Grove Mills, Keighley, a firm founded by his grandfather. He was chairman of the Land Mortgage Bank of Texas Limited, a Governor of Giggleswick School, and chairman of the committee the Keighley Victoria Hospital. He was for some years also chairman the Bingley School Board when that body embraced Ingrow and Lees. He was elected a member the West Riding County Council seventeen years ago, and in 1901, the resignation of (now Sir) John Brigg, was elevated to the Aldermanic bench. He had held representative offices the Wesleyan Church, and, twelve years ago, was presented with a silver rose bowl completing fifty years as officer and teacher in Wesley-place Sunday School. He was in his eightieth year. He leaves three sons and two daughters. His wife predeceased him. he was a Liberal in politics. One of his brothers is Mr. John Clough, president Keighley Liberal Association, and another was the late Alderman William Clough, former Mayor Keighley.'[2]
