Robert Edmund Sprott (c1857-1929)

1929 Obituary [1]

ROBERT EDMUND SPROTT served five years' apprenticeship in Belfast, afterwards remaining with Messrs. John Rowan and Sons for four years as a draughtsman.

He spent a number of years subsequently as a draughtsman with Messrs. John Cochrane and Mr. James Howden of Glasgow and with Messrs. Harland and Wolff of Belfast.

He then commenced a foundry and engineering works of his own in Belfast, but ill-health compelled him to give up this work and after spending a year abroad he joined the engineering staff of the Bridgewater Trustees, Manchester, with whom he remained until his retirement two years ago.

Mr. Sprott, who became a Member of the Institution in 1901, died on 25th March 1929, in his seventy-second year.
