Robert Holroyd Slade (1870-1900)
1902 Obituary [1]
ROBERT HOLROYD SLADE, born on the 27th September, 1870, obtained his preliminary engineering training at the Yorkshire College, Leeds.
From 1889 to 1892 he served an apprenticeship to Messrs. Campbells and Hunter at the Dolphin Foundry, Leeds, and on the completion of his pupilage he remained with that firm as an assistant until the autumn of 1897, when his health broke down. He was obliged to give up work from that time and to travel abroad, from which he derived much benefit. Unfortunately he contracted blood-poisoning in Switzerland, which proved fatal on the 4th November, 1900.
Mr. Slade was elected an Associate Member of the Institution on the 5th May, 1896. While studying at the Yorkshire College he took great interest in its Engineering Society, of which he acted for a time as Honorary Secretary. He also served on the Council of the Yorkshire Association of Students of the Institution.
