Robert Henry Sabine (1837-1884), C.E., pioneer of electric telegraphy

1837 Born in Dorchester[1]

c.1860 Started work for Siemens and Halske; worked on all aspects of telegraphy including telegraphic apparatus and the laying of telegraph cables.

1868 of 20 Great George St, London, in private practice; joined Inst Civil Engineers as Associate Member.

1869 Author of "The History and Progress of the Electric Telegraph".[2]

1871 Robert Sabine 31, civil engineer, boarding in Islington[3]

1872 Robert Henry Sabine married Ada Catherine Wheatstone (daughter of Sir Charles Wheatstone) in St Marylebone[4]

1881 Robert Sabine 41, civil engineer, lived in Hampton Wick with A.D. Sabine 28, Charles Sabine 4[5]

1884 Died at Hampton Wick[6]
