1946 Obituary [1]

"ROBERT TAYLOR, whose death occurred on 30th May 1945, at the age of eighty-four, was associated with the firm of Messrs. Asa Lees and Company, Ltd., Soho Iron Works, Oldham (now textile machinery makers), for the very long period of seventy years. Indeed, his father's years of service with the same company, added to his own, covered a period of no less than 102 years, of which 62 years represented the sum of their years as successive managing directors. Entering the works as an apprentice at the age of fourteen, he became works manager in 1882 and joint managing director in 1902. Subsequently he became chairman of directors and continued to hold this position until shortly before his death. During his long association with the firm the works underwent great expansion. Mr. Taylor was a Member of the Institution for over fifty years, having been elected in 1893. He was also a Justice of the Peace."
