ROBERT WILLIAM LEACH was born in 1877 and served his apprenticeship from 1891 to 1896 with Messrs. Braithwaite and Kirk, of West Bromwich. After filling the position of draughtsman with various engineering firms in the Midlands during the next five years, he was appointed engineer to Messrs. Foster Brothers, tube makers of Wednesbury, remaining with the firm until 1906.
He then became works manager to Messrs. James Allen of Coatbridge, but in 1909 he received an appointment as managing director of the Audley Engineering Company, Ltd., of Newport, Shropshire, and began a connection which lasted for over thirty years. He was also a director of the British Rolling Mills, Tipton, Staffs, and from 1908 to 1930 represented the interests of Messrs. Davy Brothers in the Midlands.
Mr. Leach, whose death occurred in April 1944, had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1902.
