1937 The Rockwool group was founded in Denmark

It became the world’s largest manufacturer of stone wool insulation. By 1999 it had 17 factories in nine countries in Europe and North America.

1970 Rockwool in the UK was incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rockwool International.

1978 Rockwool (UK) became jointly owned by Rockwool Investments Ltd and British Petroleum plc.

1979 The UK factory and head office were established at Bridgend, South Wales, with the commissioning of one production line for the manufacture of stone wool.

1980 a second production line was established at Bridgend.

1986 BP sold its shares in Rockwool to Rockwool International

1998 Rockwool was planning a 3rd line at Bridgend but suspended these plans when the possibility arose of acquiring Owens-Corning's Queensferry stone wool production plant. This proposal was referred to the Competition Commission.
