Mr. R. C. Cross (Member), received his technical education at the Dumfries Academy, and at Bristol University.

He served his apprenticeship with Arrol-Johnson, Ltd., Dumfries, after which he worked as a draughtsman in the design department of the Bristol Aeroplane Co., Ltd.

After six years with this latter company he was appointed leading draughtsman at Vickers, Ltd., Weybridge.

In 1923 he developed his own firm, the Cross Manufacturing Co. (1938), Ltd., of which he is now managing director.
