Rolling Bridge, Ulverston Canal

From Graces Guide

near Ulverston

An unusual rolling railway bridge (with associated accumulator tower) built in 1883. Designed by Frank Stileman

The bridge was hydraulically operated, but the cylinders and rams were removed in 1952-3 and an associated engine house was demolished. The bridge is now fixed in position and no longer functions as a rolling bridge.
