1959 Sir David Anderson retired as principal; he was replaced by Dr S. C. Curran FRS[1]

1961 Murray's committee recommended that the RCST should merge with the Scottish College of Commerce to become a university.

1962 The name chosen for the new institution was the University of Strathclyde; Curran was its first principal and vice-chancellor.
