1870 Established as S. A. Sadler by Samuel Sadler.
1883 The company was registered on 29 March, to take over the business of S. A. Sadler, manufacturing chemist and tar distiller. [1]. Incorporated as a Limited Company.
Subsequently had branches at Ulverston, Portsmouth, Stockton-on-Tees, Carlton, County Durham, and elsewhere.
By 1959 the business had been split in three:
- Sadler and Co (Chemicals) Ltd
- North Eastern Tar Distillers (Sadlers)
- Sadler and Co (Glasgow) Ltd, maker of soaps, etc
