1866 Description of an interesting machine tool made for fast production of bolt heads, brass valves, and the like. It could be either used as a simple lathe with three tools for roughing and finishing nuts or the heads of bolts, or readily adapted to shape the flats on bolts and similar components. The components were held in collets, and when used as a lathe the components were quickly removed by reversing the spindle and grabbing the component with a form of claw. The rotary table for shaping hexagons, etc., had an anti-backlash wormwheel.[1]
