1886 'Death of Mr. Samuel Brooks.—The death is announced of Mr. Samuel Brooks, of the Union Ironworks, West Gorton, which took place rather suddenly at his residence, Slade House, Slade-lane, Levenshulme, early on Tuesday morning. Mr. Brooks, who was about 62 years of age, had not enjoyed the best of health for some time past, but he had not been confined to the house.... The deceased gentleman will be interred at the Southern Cemetery on Saturday at noon.'[1]
