SAMUEL DEAN SCHOFIELD was engineer representative for Lancashire of Messrs. Holophane of Westminster, specialists in scientific illumination, with whom he had been connected for about ten years prior to his retirement in 1930. Whilst with this firm he had been responsible for many important lighting installations.
He was born at Guiseley, Yorks., in 1870 and served his apprenticeship from 1886 to 1890 with Messrs. John Perry and Sons of Shipley. For the following ten years he was employed by various mechanical and electrical firms and gained considerable practical experience.
In 1899 Mr. Schofield joined the Shipley Urban District Council, first as manager of their destructor and sewage works, and subsequently as consulting resident engineer and manager of the electricity, tramways, and sewage disposal departments.
In 1912 he joined the Thelma Syndicate as mechanical and electrical engineer and was responsible for their ore-crushing and concentrating plant in Norway.
From 1915 to 1920 he was engaged by Messrs. Thomas Firth and Sons upon electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and constructional work.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1904 and was transferred to Membership in 1912. He was also a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
His death occurred on 11th March 1933.
