Samuel George Lemon

From Graces Guide

Samuel George Lemon ( -1949) of the York Street Flax Spinning Co

1949 Died. 'Through the passing of Samuel Graham Lemon not only "York Street" but the whole industry, has lost a fine personality, an outstanding mill manager and a great authority on every phase of the manufacture of linen yarn thread. After serving his apprenticeship at Sion Mills, Mr. Lemon joined the York Street Flax Spinning Company in 1911, and was soon marked out for rapid promotion. By the irony of fate, after serving for many years as manager of York Road Mill, he was appointed general manager of both Henry Street Mill and York Road Mill only a few days before the former was destroyed through enemy action. However, he had the satisfaction of planning the greater and splendidly equipped York Road Mill, which superseded both the original works, and also designed the small new thread works at Lurgan. Mr. Lemon's knowledge and integrity were second to none and he was frequently called upon to arbitrate in important flax disputes of unusual complexity. His awards were invariably received without question.'[1]
