SAMUEL T. GRAHAM was born at Thornliebank, Renfrewshire, in 1894, and received his education at Eastbank Technical School. His apprenticeship was served from 1910 until 1915 with various engineering firms in Glasgow; he then enlisted, and the following five years were spent on active service.
In 1920 he was appointed sales agent for Engineering Supplies, Ltd. Three years later he joined Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox, Renfrew, as a draughtsman. During the period 1926-9 he was engaged by Messrs. Yarrow and Company, Glasgow, in a similar capacity. Mr. Graham then returned to Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox as leading draughtsman in the boiler and power station section, and from 1934 until his death he was chief of the Special Vessels Section. In this capacity he was responsible for the design of many high-pressure fusion-welded vessels for steam plants, chemical works, and the oil industry.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1940, and his death, on 10th December of the same year, occurred only a few months after his election.
