Sarah Jane Knowling (c1853-1931)

Born in London the daughter of Thomas M. Knowling, a Bootmaker.

1897 Trading from 44 High Street, Exeter, draper.

1901 Living at 5 Grosvenor Place, Blackboy Road, Exeter: Sarah J. Knowling (age 48 born City of London), Ladies Outfitter and Clothier (Single). With her sister Hannah M. Knowling (age 41 born London), Assistant to sister. Also her nephew and niece.[1]

1931 Died. 'The funeral of Miss Sarah Jane Knowling, of 39, Morton-road, Exmouth, took place at Littleham, the Rev. F. G. Benison (priest-in-charge) officiating. Miss Knowling, who formerly resided at Dawlish, and was in her 87th year, was a sister the late Mr. T. W . Knowling, of Chapel-hill, Exmouth.'[2]
