SAXON LUCAS met his death by accident in March 1929, whilst inspecting a water tank on the Furness Line steamer "London Corporation."
He was the superintendent engineer of the Furness, Withy Company at Liverpool, and was 56 years of age.
He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Richardsons, Westgarth and Company at Middlesbrough and afterwards became manager to the firm.
In 1914 he took up the position he held at the time of his death.
Whilst at Middlesbrough he took part in the equipment of the first motor vessel of Messrs. Furness, Withy and Company with her Richardsons-Westgarth-Carels single-screw, two stroke oil- engine, and accompanied the ship, the "Eavestone," on her maiden voyage.
Mr. Lucas became a Member of the Institution in 1922, and he was a Member also of the Institution of Naval Architects.
