1937 The Scottish Aircraft and Engineering Co., agreed with Lord Nuffield that they should purchase of aero engine business, including the whole of the plant and machinery of Wolseley Aero Engines at Birmingham. Included in the arrangement is an understanding that the whole of the business — including the plant and machinery — would be transferred to a distressed area so they have decided to build a modern works on the Clyde, where skilled labour requirements can be satisfied. A new company, the Clyde Aero Engine Co., Ltd., has been formed to build the Wolseley range of 250-500 h.p. engines in a new factorv. These engines will in future be known as Clyde aero engines.[1]
