Londonderry steam wagons built 1904-5
ca. 1903-6 Produced the S.H.E.W. car with a 15 h.p. Forman engine of 110 mm x 130 mm. Three forward and reverse gears and chain drive. Only two or three made.
1904 January. Employs around 100 people.[1]
1904 June. 'Londonderry waggon No. 26. the latest standard commercial tipping waggon turned out by its builders, the Marquis of Londonderry's Seaham Harbour Engine Works, is about to undergo an unprecedented test. This is a road trip, under steam, from Seaham Harbour to London, with a five ton load, in 48 hours, only stopping to pick up water and relays of drivers route. The distance is 300 miles, and it is hoped to maintain a speed of about 6 1/4 miles per hour ail the way'[2]
