1967 Two systems of industrialised housing - The "X.W. system" - it stands for cross-wall construction - and the other "R.T. construction" is a rationalised traditional system in which parts of traditional building are industrialised. 'It is the "X.W." which is most interesting. The construction uses precision made precast concrete exposed-aggregate panels two storeys high made at the Gothers works or at Crofts in Leicestershire, another subsidiary of English China Clays. The internal walls are cast on the slab which forms the floor of the downstairs rooms and are lifted into position. The space between the exterior panels is filled by prefabricated timber work including doors and windows made at John Williams works. And a great deal of the plumbing and electrical wiring is prefabricated.' Transported to the site by Heavy Transport Ltd. another subsidiary of the group.[2]
