Sheppey Gas Co

From Graces Guide

of Sheppey

1959 'Sheppey Gas Works at Westminster are to close in April - probably April 4 - because coal is no longer needed for the production of gas. Mr. L. S. Agent, Chief Engineer of Sittingbourne, Faversham and Sheppey areas of the South Eastern Gas Board, told a “Times-Guardian™ reporter that gas is being produced from oil on the Isle of Grain and will shortly be available to every house in Sheppey.'[1]
