1792 Wiert Willem Sikkens built a paint factory in the city wall of Groningen.

1924 Sikkens established a laboratory for quality control and product development.

Soon expanded into specialist coatings for the joinery, automotive and aerospace industries.

1939 Moved to Sassenheim to be closer to its customers.

Post-WWI Because of shortage of raw materials, developed a range of synthetic coatings.

1960s A series of mergers and takeovers

Today Sikkens is part of the AkzoNobel group
