1946 Tom Clarke and his wife started repairing mattresses in Skipton[1]

1967 Tried to set up a joint venture for exporting furniture with Wood Bros, R. S. Stevens and J. Lupton and Sons[2]

1972 Acquire Aitken Ansell of Sheffield and Imperial Mill, Burnley[3]. Acquired Buoyant Upholstery of Nottingham. Issue of shares in Silentnight Holdings to the public[4]

1973 Sold a controlling interest in Plastocraft Products (Darwen) to Cooper Finance[5]

1976 Clarke handed over the chairmanship of the subsidiary firm Silentnight but remained chairman and MD of the holding company.

1977 Took an interest in R. Foster and Son[6] Acquired H. and N. Binder[7]

2011 After a collapse in profits the firm was put into administration; acquired by private equity group HIG[8]
