1924 Company formed by Samuel Wallace Smedley of Evesham when he bought the old Crosse and Blackwell jam making factory at Wisbech

1931 Built a factory at West Marsh Road, Spalding

1937 Opened a bottling plant at Evesham

1959 One of 7 firms in Britain distributing frozen food nationally[1]

1968 Imperial Tobacco Co acquired National Canning Co, owner of Smedley's

Smedley's became part of Imperial Foods

1972 Put into holding company with other subsidiaries of Imperial as Smedley-HP Foods

1972 One of the operating companies was Smedley Ross Foods Ltd., of Worstead, North Walsham.

1981 Smedley's, brand leader in canned goods vegetables, was separated from Imperial Foods[2] and merged into TKM Foods a leader in own-brand canned goods.

1983 Acquired by Hillsdown Holdings
