1966 Swan Hunter (Dry Docks) Ltd was incorporated[1]

By 1975 had the name Swan Hunter Ship Repairers Tyne Ltd

1975 Identified as a firm to be nationalised[2]

1977 Swan Hunter was nationalised but the ship repair business seems to have been a part of the group that was not nationalised

1978 Name changed to Smiths Shiprepairers North Shields

1980 Said to be a "substantial business", one that had never been nationalised; almost opposite Tyne Dock Engineering Co on the opposite side of the river Tyne[3]

1981 The parent company, Gosforth Industrial Holdings was acquired by Ferguson International Holdings[4]

1988 Acquired by A&P Appledore Ship Repairers Ltd[5]
