Snow Hill Railway Tunnel
There are at least 2 tunnels by this name.
1) 1852 - West Midlands Railway - see Snow Hill Station, Birmingham
2) The tunnel that linked the London, Chatham and Dover Railway to the Metropolitan Railway south of Farringdon in London.
1874 Snow Hill station opened on 1 August, below ground in the tunnel.
1912 The station was adjacent to Holborn Viaduct Station and was renamed Holborn Viaduct Low Level
1916 passenger services through the tunnel were discontinued.
In the mid 1980s, Snow Hill tunnel was restored as a north-south rail link through central London. The Holborn Viaduct station buildings were demolished and replaced by the City Thameslink station nearby.
