Society of Friends Meeting House, Exeter

1861 Listed in Friar's Walk. No persons resident.[1]

1873 Exeter Temperance Society have purchased the large building on the Friars once known as the Friend's Meeting House.[2]

New chapel at Pavilion Place, Exeter

1875 Francis Williams Dymond bought for £600 the original site, demolished the five houses which had been built in the meantime, and conveyed it to Friends for £300.

The current meeting house was built on the site for £1,626. The architect was Edward Appleton (1832-1916) who had also built a meeting house at Torquay in 1853.

1876 December 17th. The first Meeting for Worship was held.

1877 A small piece of additional land to the east was bought.

1942 The building sustained war damage.
