1876 Advert: 'THE SOMERSET WHEEL AND WAGON WORKS MARTOCK, SOMERSET
ON THE YEOVIL AND DURSTON LINE.
Highly important sale of five portable and stationary new and second hand steam engines, from one to twelve-horse power, viz., one l-horse, three-horse and 1 seven-horse new portable engines, 1 ten-horse beam engine, and 1 twelve-horse stationary high pressure and condensing engine ; 5 lathes, from seven to 12- inch centres, shaping and drilling machines, circular and band saw machines, two Wheeler’s lathes, boring machine, morticing ditto, tyre bevelling machine, bonding furnace and fittings, linking platform, punching press, bending rolls, five forges and anvils, bellows, a large quantity of smiths tools, shafting, plummer blocks, pulleys and belts, a five ton Weston's pulley block, shear legs, carpenters' and fitters’ benches, with vices, a valuable selection of modern iron and wood patterns, field rollers, crushers, new horse gear, timber carriage, a number of new light and heavy cart and waggon wheels, felloes, ....'[1]

WILLIAM SPARROW, thanking his friends for past favours, begs to inform them and the public that the BUSINESS CARRIED ON for the last seven years under the style of "THE SOMERSET WHEEL AND WAGGON C0.," ENGINEERS, MILLWRIGHTS, and IRON FOUNDERS, MARTOCK, will, after the end of April instant, be CARRIED ON IN ALL ITS BRANCHES BY HIMSELF, as SOLE PROPRIETOR ; and he hopes to be favoured with orders, which shall have his best attention.'[2]
A 15 ft dia. suspension-type waterwheel by the Somerset Wheel and Wagon Co survives at the former mill (now a private house) at Knole, Long Sutton, Somerset.
