South Staffordshire Tramways (Lessee) Co

1899 The company was registered to acquire from the British Electric Traction Co the right to call for a lease in perpetuity of the tramways owned by the South Staffordshire Tramway Co, subject to the rights of the local authorities to purchase such tramways.

1900 The lease was granted to the lessee company on April 25th.

1904 From January 1st, the Birmingham and Midland Tramways company acquired from the British Electric Traction Co a large number of shares in the Dudley, Stourbridge and District Electric Traction Co, the South Staffordshire Tramways (Lessee) Co, the Wolverhampton District Electric Tramways and the City of Birmingham Tramways Co, giving to the Birmingham and Midland Company control of all these undertakings. Arrangements have been made by the appointment of a joint committee for the various tramways and light railways owned, leased or controlled by these companies to be worked as one undertaking.

1908 The tramways comprised in the South Staffordshire Tramways lease were of a route length of about 23 miles. Certain sections of the line have since been purchased by local authorities, but, with the exception of a portion of the line in Walsall of about 4 miles, these are now leased direct to the lessee company. All the tramways leased to the company are now worked by electricity.
