1947 Southern Counties Car Auctions Limited was registered as a private company, with capital of £10,000, on 14th July.[1] The business was established by David Wickins.

1962 The company acquired Measham Motor Sales for approximately £400,000, to create a group handling about 90% of the car auction business nationally. The company was said to be the largest organisation of its kind in the world, with auctions at ten centres in England.[2]

1969 The name of the company was changed to British Car Auctions Limited.
