SPAR, originally DESPAR, styled as DE SPAR, is a Dutch multinational franchise that provides branding, supplies and support services for independently owned and operated food retail stores. It was founded in the Netherlands in 1932

1959 Commenced in the UK and may be a supermarket or a convenience shop.

1997 Spar was introduced to most UK military bases by the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (Naafi), where it sells a variety of civilian and military products.
