Staines Bridge
Thomas Wilson (1751-1820) designed the bridge across the Thames using experience from the Wearmouth Bridge. The span was 180 feet.
1803 the bridge was opened but cracks in the ironwork soon became apparent. This was blamed on movement in the abutments. John Rennie and Charles Hutton both found problems in this regard. Rennie recommended rebuilding the abutments.
1807 a hybrid bridge opened.
1832 A replacement bridge was opened, designed by G. and J. Rennie.
