Stanley Hawkins (c1859-1947)

1947 Died. 'Death of Mr. Stanley Hawkings. A Bromley public servant for 35 years, from 1892 to 1928, Stanley Hawkings has died at the age of 88. He served the town well, first as surveyor to the Local Board, then as surveyor to the Urban District Council. and as borough engineer from 1903. when Bromley received its Charter of Incorporation. He was responsible for private street improvements in upward of a hundred Bromley roads during his 35 years of office. Mr. Hawkings designed the laying out of Queen's Gardens. His outside interest lay in X-ray and electrical research and he gave several lecture - exhibitions in Bromley. On retiring he took up residence at Kingsdown, near Deal.'[1]
