1904 [1] Company founded by Alexander Steinberg.
By the late 1920s, the business had become a family concern, and began marketing Alexon and Dellbury brands under the name Steinberg and Sons Ltd.
A period of rapid expansion saw factory openings and acquisitions.
1947 British Industries Fair Advert for "Dellbury" Nobility in Tailor Mades; "Alexon" 'Size Right' Coats and Suits. Manufacturers of Women's Coats, Suits and Ensembles in a complete range of sizes and fittings. Registered trade names "Dellbury" Models and "Alexon", for Home and Export. 1967 Establishment of the first of over 200 in-store concessions.
1986 Trading as Alexon from 1986 onwards, the group segmented into clearly defined brands.
1983 Steinberg Group planned to buyout the 25 percent minority holding in Claremont Garments[2]
1989 Claremont Garments, the manufacturing arm of the Alexon Group, had 2 parts: contract manufacturing and branded wear, through newly established Mead Manufacturing; it advertised for a managing director for Mead[3]
1991 Alexon demerged Claremont Garments because of increasing competition between Alexon and Marks and Spencer, Claremont's principal customers[4]
