1845 Married at Burnham, Norfolk, to Elizabeth Porritt

1851 Living at South Street, Boston: Stephen Lewin (age 28 born London), Architect and Timber Merchant. With his wife Elizabeth Lewin (age 25 born Burnham, Nfk.) and their two sons Stephen Lewin (age 2 born Boston) and David Lewin (age 7 Months born Boston). Two servants.[2]

1859 Critical article. '...the appointment of Mr. Wm. Lewin by the Boston Harbour Trust Surveyor to the Harbour in that borough. He already holds the situation Surveyor to the Drainage of your district, and also of the Black Sluice....He is called C.E. Where did he receive his education, and what body conferred on him that degree? Or does he consider himself justified in assuming it because took a leap from being time-keeper one of the dockyards under Sir John Rennie to the Surveyorship of the Black Sluice? Yet this reputed C.E. is lauded and held up as the only person fit for filling the office of Surveyor to the Harbour Trust...'[3]

1871 Living at Market Street, Poole: Stephen Lewin (age 43 born City of London), Timber and Iron Merchant employing 81 men and 18 boys. With his wife Elizabeth Lewin (age 43 born Burnham, Nfk.) and their three children; Stephen Lewin (age 22 born Boston, Lincs.), Clerk at Timber Yard; David Lewin (age 20 born Boston, Lincs.), Clerk at Foundry; and Jessie Lewin (age 8 born Boston, Lincs.). 1881 Living at Branksome Wood Road, Armathwaite, Christchurch, Hants: Stephen Lewin (age 56 born London), Timber Merchant. With his wife Elisabeth Lewin (age 58 born Norfolk) and their daughter Jessie L. L. Lewin (age 18 born Boston). Two visitors. Two servants.[8]
