Born the son of Nicholas Whitaker, a model maker and pattern maker.

1891 Residing at 1 Cobden street, Halifax, a machine tool maker and employer. Living with his parents and siblings.[1]

1911 Residing at 7 Mostyn Mount, Ovenden, Halifax: Stephen Scott Whitaker (age 49 born Halifax), Machine Tool Maker. With his wife Lily.[2]

1940 Death of Founder of Booth Town Firm. The death took place yesterday of Mr. Stephen Scott Whitaker (78), of 5, Mostyn-mount, Ovenden, a well-known local engineer. Mr. Whitaker had been in the engineering trade since 1890. being first connected with the firm of Scott Bros. Over 40 years ago he founded the firm of S. Appleyard and Co., machine tool makers, Grantham-road, Booth Town, and had attended to business up to three weeks ago. He was formerly connected with Pellon-lane Baptist Church. He leaves a widow.'[3]
