Stockport Waterworks

1871 'Stockport District Water Works Company. The contracts for the Bollinhurst reservoir and covered conduit, at Lyme Park, have been let to Messrs T. and W. Meadows, builders of this town. The engineer is Mr G. H. Hill CE son of Thomas Hill Esq of Reddish and son-in-law of the Rector of Stockport. He has had experience as a water engineer, having been Mr Bateman’s chief assistant in the extensive works constructed for the supply of water to the cities of Manchester and Glasgow. When this reservoir is completed the Company will have a storage of 100 days’ supply, independent of what the streams would yield and in addition to the million gallons per day which the Manchester Corporation Works is required to furnish. The top water level of new reservoir will be 30 feet above the top of the church tower at Disley, and about 86 feet higher than the top of Alderley Edge. When the reservoir is completed it is intended to supply water to the village of Disley'[1]
