Stornoway Shipping Co

From Graces Guide

50 Kenneth Street, Stornoway

1914 The Stornoway Shipping Company Limited was incorporated, with capital of £10,000, to carry on the business of owners and charterers of ships, and shipbrokers. The subscribers were a group of Stornoway businessmen.[1] The directors hoped to acquire a steamer, the Lady Tennant, which was to make regular sailings between Stornoway and Glasgow and, in time, other west coast ports. There was a large trade in the shipment of cured herrings to Glasgow for transhipment to America and the intention was to carry passengers as well.[2]

1921 The company went into voluntary liquidation.[3]

Records of the company, 1913-1921, are held by the Hebridean Archives.[4]
