1802 Advertisement: 'PRESTON IRON FOUNDERY. SUMMERFIELD AND ATKINSON, Respectfully inform their friends and the public, that they have established an IRON FOUNDERY, situated in the Back-Lane, Preston, where they intend carrying on the business of IRON and BRASS FOUNDERS, MILLWRIGHTS, and makers of Patent Steam Engines, in all their various branches; and humbly hope, by a strict attention, to merit the favours of their employers All orders conferred upon them will be executed with punctuality and dispatch. Cast Iron and Brass Work, of every description for Millwrights and Machinery, cast to model, or drawings, on the lowest terms.'[1]

1804 'CO-PARTNERSHIP between WILLIAM SUMMERFIELD, of Preston, in the comity of Lancaster, iron-founder, and GEORGE HOSKINS, of Liverpool, in the said county, merchant, in the businesses of engine-makers, millwrights, iron-founders, and timber- merchants, carried on at Preston aforesaid, was this day DISSOLVED, by mutual consent All demands upon the above firm will be paid by the said George Hoskins, who is empowered to receive and discharge; all debts due to the said co-partnership.
