Sydney Edmund Day (c1884-1928)

1929 Obituary [1]

SYDNEY EDMUND DAY was throughout his career associated with the Borough Electricity works of Bury St. Edmunds.

After completing his education at the East Anglian School he was apprenticed to the late Mr. Rowe, for whom he afterwards became assistant engineer.

Following the death of Mr. Rowe he served under Mr. Grieg, whom he succeeded as engineer and manager of the electricity works in 1905. At that time the undertaking was quite small, the maximum load amounting to 30 kw. Under Mr. Day's management the plant has been greatly extended and the present capacity is 900 kw. and preparations are now in progress for the installation of a 1,000 kw. turbo-generator with condensing plant and cooling tower.

Mr. Day became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1913, and he was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.

His death occurred on 14th July 1928, at the age of 44.
