Sydney Sanderson Hawkins (c1865-1940)

Born at Brighton the son of George Hawkins, a Railway Manager.

1899 Agent and General Manager of the Assam Railways and Trading Co

1911 Living at Lexden, Lewes Road, Ditchling, Sussex: Sydney Sanderson Hawkins (age 46 Born Brighton), Retired Civil Engineer. With his wife Clara, one son and one daughter.[1]

1940 Died. 'The death occurred at Cambridge on Tuesday. at the age of 74, of Mr. Sydney Sanderson Hawkins, formerly a well-known resident of Ditchling. He was a retired civil engineer. Mr. Hawkins served for a number of years on the Chaney Rural District Council and the Lewes Board of Guardians. His professional knowledge was very valuable on those bodies and general regret was expressed when he had to retire owing to failing sight He was for some time chairman of the Ditchling Parish Council. He was also actively associated with the Ditchling Fire Brigade and with the Ditchling Flower Show Committee. Mr. Hawkins leaves a widow, one son and one daughter.'[2]
