1857 Advert: 'Spennymoor. Presentation and Farewell Supper. — On Wednesday evening last, the agents and workmen of the Tudhoe Iron Works assembled at the house of Mr Adamson, Wheat Sheaf Inn, Spennymoor, for the purpose of presenting Mr John G. Raine, engineer of the works, with a testimonial of their esteem and respect, on the occasion of that gentleman leaving the works to proceed to America, as engineer. The testimonial consisted of a highly finished case of mathematical instruments, manufactured T. B. Winter, Newcastle, and an elegant gold guard chain, valued at 14 guineas. ....'[2]

1859 Advert: 'MICROSCOPES 7s.6d., 10s., 13s., 18s., and 21s., EACH.
PERSONS in want of a good and cheap MICROSCOPE, would do well to call 55, GREY STREET, and examine those made by T. B. WINTER, Optician, which for power and definition are not equalled any other Maker out of London at the Price.'[3]

1898 Partnership dissolved. '...the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned Thomas Burgess Winter and Charles Winter carrying on business in partnership as Opticians at No. 21 Grey-street in the city and county of Newcastle-upon-Tyne under the style or firm of T. B. Winter and Son has been dissolved by mutual consent as and from the 31st day of December Ib97. All debts due to and owing by the late firm will be received and paid by the said Charles Winter who will continue to carry on the said business on his own account under the said style or firm of T. B. Winter and Son...'[5]
