T. Howard-Jones, BSc, Graduate, attended Bishop Wordsworths School in Salisbury, Wiltshire. In 1968 he completed a five-year student apprenticeship with the UKAEA at Harwell, from which he graduated with honours in mechanical engineering at Bristol University. He has worked with the Marine Technology Support Unit at AERE Harwell since its inception at the end of 1968. His primary interest has been the design and computer simulation of a variety of vehicle systems for the remote deployment of underwater tools and instruments. A keen amateur diver, he is currently equipment officer of the Swindon branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club.
