We note with regret the death of Mr. T. S. Finlayson, formerly chief locomotive draughtsman, Southern Railway.

A Scotsman who created the great steam engines of the Southern Railway has died in England. He was Mr. Thomas Scott Finlayson, who went from Glasgow to become chief locomotive draughtsman for the old London and S.W. Railway, and later the Southern Railway. Mr. Finlayson was responsible for the big locomotives of the King Arthur, Lord Nelson and 'Schools' class. In 1937 he retired to Southampton, where he had made his home for many years.
