1958 He had an engineering apprenticeship with Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Limited, Neptune Works, Walker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He then enlarged his engineering experience firstly with R. & W. Hawthorn Leslie, St Peter’s Works, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and then with J. Samuel White & Company Limited, East Cowes, Isle of Wight. With the knowledge and experience thus gained he joined International Combustion Limited on the 1st May, 1936.[1]
